I have a Mariner outboard which started perfectly on Monday, today when i tried to start it, it wouldn't start. I checked the spark plugs and they didn't spark. I also disconnected the main plug for the wiring harness and turned the engine over and nothing happened, no spark.

What can cause this?

A sudden loss of spark to all plugs is most likely caused by a faulty kill switch. Disconnect the blk/yel wires at the switchboxes and try again.

Just remember that you won't be able to kill then engine with the blk/yel wires disconnected, instead you'll have to choke it till it dies.

If you have disconnected the blk/yellow wires from the switch boxes and still have no spark then ck the stator, thats probably the problem

But didnt I disconect the kill switch by disconecting the big wiring harness plug at the engine?

What wire should i disconnect. I have three black and yellow wires. I disconnected the three of them and i have spark on one side only. I changed the thing that looks like a power pack and nothing. Does this mean it is the stator?

It still sounds like a stator bur just don't throw parts at (that cost to much money) either you test it, have you a OHM meter ot DVA available to you? we can talk you through it or have it tested one or the other, let us Know

Re: Mariner 200hp, no spark.

Up to now, it hasn't cost me a penny since i have many parts available from other engines i have. Today i did some more testing and i only have spark on cylinder 4. Can this be the switch board? I will be getting a new tester tomorrow since the one i had was left outside and got wet. I checked the coils and they are good too. Im guessing the stator is not the problem since i interchanged the power cables from one switch box to the other and same thing happened.
