Switched motors from one boat to another. One boat had a 15 hp Mariner, a 1993 motor, and the other boat had a 25hp motor, year not known. Probably a 1987 though. Anyway I'm trying to get the remote control working again and can't quite get it right. I switched cables and motors reusing the remote control shifter that each boat had originally. Would it be easier to start over with new cables?

they should fit each other, but you would have to re-adjust them where it connects to the motor ...... does it connect on the outside of the motor or does the control cables go in? .....

They go underneath the cowling and attach to the side of the motor. I can get the one that shifts the gears to work but the one that works the throttle is out of the range of adjustment. I have recently found out that this outboard is a 1985. I would like to keep the controller if possible because it fits nicely on the center console.

Re: Mariner 25hp Outboard

I have just looked at the control cables iboat recommends for my year outboard made by Teleflex. I think they will work with my Quick Silver controller, but on one end of the cable has an eye and the other end does not. I need a cable with two eyes. I think my 1985 Mariner outboard, serial #A148102 was made by either Tohatsu or Yamaha.

The throttle has to be moved slightly away from it's stop to attach to the cable. I've almost got it but that trunion is all the way over to one side the way it is. I may need to re-adjust the stop. What do you think?
