Mariner 4 stroke

I am looking at a boat with a 1966 Mariner 50 hp 4 stroke. Can anyone give me the low down on Mariner motors. Where they mad by Chryslat? i have not seen one being used in a long time and I am wondering if these engines are any good. It seems to me that I heard negitive comments on the MMariner 2 stroke outboards. Thanks

A 1966 4 stroke?? I don't think I ever heard of it. Could you mean 4 cylinder?
