Can anyone tell me about this particular mariner outboard...6E9 S 006185? What year was it made, is it a short or long shaft and what might this outboard be worth in mint condition. It is up for sale and am considering purchasing it.

I do not have my chart in front of me, but I can confirm that the engine is a Yamaha version of the Mariner.

TMD

Re: Mariner 40 HP

was doing some surfing and found a web site that explains short-long-extra long shaft length is calculated/measured as follows:

the cavitation plate should be fairly in line with the bottom of the boat, measure from the cavitation plate up to the top of the transom where the o/b motor sits
15 inches = short shaft
20 inches = long shaft
25 inches = extra long
