Hi,

I am a new owner so please bear with me!

Having to replace the ignition on my searider sr4. The engine is a mariner 40 hp 2 stroke, age unknown (probably yamaha wiring as its uk based) but fairly old.
The problem is that the old ignition is moulded without lettering to let you know what colour does what. I have red (battery) and black (earth) but also yellow and brown. The new switch has places marked solenoid, magneto and accessory. What colour wire relates to what.
Do not have any accessorys running off it so pretty sure that needs to remain blank. Also have a kill switch which has black and white wires. I am assuming the black also goes to the earth but where does the white connect to.
Choke has been removed so not an issue. Looked at so many different schematics its hard to tell which is the correct one.

Hope this makes sense

Thanks

Thanks Glenn,

The diarams have really helped.

Traced the brown wire back and it goes magneto. Followed the instructions with the switch and using photos of the old switch.
Engine starts fine but kill switch wont work. Back to the drawing board for another look.

if the switch shuts the engine down then the 2 wires from the kill switch can be paralleled to the M posts of the ignition. All the M posts do is short the magneto to ground to kill the motor when the key is switched off. The lanyard switch does the same thing so one side can be ground and the other side hooked to the engine kill wire. lanyard switch should be open when plastic key is in place .some replacement lanyard switchs had 4 terminals so you could choose between normally open and normally closed contacts yours uses the normally closed when the clip is removed (thus open when the clip is attached)
hope this helps
