Hi

I have a Mariner 40hp which has the marks 40 ELO 6E9 L 451408.

Any clues for how old it is??

I've looked at the Swedish modelguide page (found on another topic on this site) and the nearest that showed was one from 1987, but it's designation was 40C ELO.

Does that make a difference?

Thanks for your help.

Also, any recommendations for which workshop manual to buy??

Thanks.

Re: Mariner 40hp - what year??

Dont know the year but it appears to be listed as a 40 twincarb with Oil injection. I would figure this on the designation: E(electric) L(Long Shaft) and O(oil Injection). I am pretty sure about the eE and L but am just guessing about the O. Here is a link to a parts breakdown for this motor: http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/collections/index.cfm?fuseaction=collectdetails&colid=02

If you must know the year call the local Mercury/Mariner dealer. Give them the serial # and they should be able to tell you the year

Re: Mariner 40hp - what year??

I have a Seloc Mariner Manual for 1 & 2 Cylinder outboards that covers from 1977 t0 1989. I suggest trying to find a Mariner factory manual if possible as the Seloc gives you to your imagination quiet a bit but works well as a general guide
