i acquired a 45hp mariner that starts and idles well. the engine lugs down at full throttle. a grey looking fluid comes out of prop hub and exhaust. lower unit is clear oil, :) not milky. I think im getting water in the cylinders some way.<br />can someone give me some advice on what has to be done. does the power head have to be pulled? is it possible to unbolt the metal skirt where the water hole comes out. would appreciate any help. Do a decarb. That milky stuff is just a combination of water/carbon/oil/exhaust. If you think water is gettin in, then look at the plugs and see if they have been steam cleaned. The lugging is a fuel starvation problem, try cleaning the carbs.

I had the same problem at WOT. I found a kinked fuel line on the input side of the fuel pump.
