mariner 55

I recently bought a boat that has a mariner 55 on it with serial # 663L594567. I was told by the vendor that this is a 1989 motor. Is this information correct. Also, it is a manual start, can it be converted to electric? Thanks for whatever information you can give.

I assume it is long shaft, judging from the length of the motor, but I don't really know a whole lot about Mariners so I can't say for sure.

The "L" in your Model # would indicate that it is a Long Shaft. As for what the difference is with the Marathon, I really don't know. But I would like to, also! So I am not totally sure of the year, as it is a bit confusing.
