Hi I have a problem with my engine.
Its a mariner 75hp 3 cyl 1991 elpto motor.
The problem is it runs ok with no load on but when in gear pushing the boat wont accelerate or rev up.
Just taken it to the dealers and they say its the stat coil?
I find this a but odd as it runs ok and revs ok without load.
Any suggestions?

Re: Mariner 75 1991 problems

My experience with lawn mowers is that they can run fine with no load, but as soon is you add a load they will not rev up or have full power.

If the coil is not allowing all the cylinders to work right the engine probably would run fine with no load.

I would just ask the dealer how the stat coil is causing this problem. In my opinion, any good mechanic should take the time to explain what is happening, the cause and effect of the problem.

jezza, The condition you describe can be caused by a malfunction in the ignition or fuel system, so your mechanic may be correct.

Dirty carbs can cause this, as well as a bad stator.
