hi.
out on the longliner today,engine starts to lose revs untill it finallay dies, wont start with choke in.
choke out runs no problem put the choke in she starts to die again tried the engine when tied back up in the harbour.
runs no bother with the choke in only seems to happen when the engine is pushing the boat.
all advice wellcome.

Sounds like a dirty carb, full disassemble needed.

I just picked up an 8hp mariner from I would guess mid 80's and did a few things like cleaned out carb, new plug, new gas, general clean up. And now it starts but after a few minutes the plug fouls out and when I take it out and clean it off it starts right back up. Then fouls out again after a few minutes. Any ideas what the problem might be? Or is this typical for an older engine that hasn't been run in years? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ed..

could your oil mixture be too rich?
