I have a Mariner 9.9 on a sailboat. I am not sure of the year. It is acting like I have a fuel filter problem, It is wide open and is running at 1/2 speed. Took the cover off to try to look at the filter, took the nut off the filter and removed the filter assembly. Was not sure if it unscrewed or how to get to the fuel filte. Any suggestions? Could it be something other than the fuel filter?

Thank you in advance for your help
Greg

Re: Mariner 9.9

More information would be nice. 2- or 4-stroke, year? I've never actually run accross a clogged fuel filter in an outboard motor. Some debris, but never completely clogged. Probably something else. Pull the sparkplugs and see what they look like. They should be burning about the same.

Re: Mariner 9.9

The motor is a 2 stroke. I have taken one plug out and it looked fine. I took it out to get the number off it, I plan on replacing both plugs.

Thanks
Greg
