Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

try running the 10 micron filter. most the injector issues are due to clogged injector filters not an actual injector failure. the yamaha injectors will fit that mariner and Flagship marine can rebuild them a lot cheaper than a replacement.
quite often I am succesful with removing the injector and flushing it.

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

The problem around here with most injector failures is water in the fuel .Even small amounts of moisture will cause damage .I find it odd that it's been # 4 twice (lowest cyl.)I curious to know what type of boat the engine is on and if it sits low in the water? Also do you leave the engine down or up when moored? Or is the boat left on a trailer? Also are you running a good quality pre water seperating filter before the engine? Also how often do you run the boat ?

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

quicksilver water separator and the one fitted on motor both were clean when looked at the time of the problem.engine is left up when moored.and is never stopped when i am out fishing three times a week in the summer.the machanic [mariner trained]i employ is sratching his head over this.the engine is at the correct hight on the trasom. in the off season the engine is properly layed up.i am going to use auto injector cleaner from now on every month

Good motor with an outstanding reputation. You'd be hard-pressed to find many problems with these engines. I am personally nearing 400 hours of trouble-free operation with mine. For what its worth, I do have a 10 micron water separating filter and use Merc Quickleen on a regular basis.

Fresh or salt - it does not matter with this engine. I use in the ocean 100% of the time and no problem. I do feel my regular use of Quickleen has contributed to my good fortunes though.

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

when you say "regular use of quickcleen" how often do you use it, or how much fuel used between treaments. also just out of interest how much would you have to pay for a fuel injector, in dollars

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

I just sourced a 115efi injector for $121.00 (US) at www.ishopmarine.com. I hope this helps.
Personally, I run Quickleen mixed in all my gas and feel it helps a great deal. I am not trying to peddle "snake oil" and realize there is a wide divergence of opinion on fuel additives. For me though, it has kept the 5 Merc outboards I have owned running well with minimal problems.

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

Maybe the fuel line downstream of the filter is shedding small particles directly to the injectors. It's happened to me so I change that section every 2-3 yrs.

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

what BillP says,
the filters in the injectors are about 10 micron, the VST and most water seperators about 30 micron, guess where the tiny particles collect.
thats why I reccomend 10 micron filters as long as they can flow at least twice what the engine demands at less than a total of 4"Hg fuel system vacum at the low pressure pump inlet.
suzuki came out with EFI in the early 90's, since then merc yamaha and and a few others use the same basic EFI multi port setup. never seen an electrical failure with an injector so far, its always clogged or the pintle is stuck , neither I consider an injector failure.

Re: mariner four stroke 115hp

it was not an electrical problem. just no fuel coming out. as i have said the filter in the injector was clear.i did not take the injector apart.but i must assume it was water contamination.all the fuel is taken onboard in 5 gall cans. it is clear, that i will have to be more careful when filling the fitted tank. i have ordered a 10 micron filter
