Hi all,

I'm new to the forums. I've done a lot of reading and am learning quite a bit.

I just bought a 1988 Bass Tracker Tournament V17 with a 1988 45hp Mariner (4 cylinder inline). The boat came with no manuals. I haven't had much luck finding any info on this engine. I think (from reading online) it is supposed to run at 5500rpm at WOT. But have heard as low as 5250rpm. I'd really like to know what is correct
I have had the boat out twice and found that it revs to 5600rpm at WOT with the boat loaded and two people aboard. I believe this is a little high. But won't know for sure until I get the correct info.
Also, the water pressure gauge was reading between 5 and 7psi at WOT. And dropped to practically nothing at idle. The tell tale was shooting out a good stream though.
I will be ordering the proper manuals soon. Just hoped to get a little info before then.

TIA.

Re: Mariner Information

Your engine is exactly the same as a 45HP merc of the same year the RPMs varied somewhat from year to year when the same exact engine was a 50 HP it was 5800 at 45 it was 4500 and when it was the 40 it was less so as you see your RPM won't hurt the engine a bit. We use the same engine for stock outboard racing and run them 7000RPM with good quality oil it will last forever.
