Mariner Rectifier/Voltage Regulator - Do I Have a Problem?

I have a 1982 30 HP Mariner, #689407533. It has a Lighting Coil and (based on the Service Manual) a Rectifier, but no Voltage Regulator (at least no mention of a Voltage Regulator).

When running at about 60% of full throttle and up, the volt meter on my dash pegs at 16V. Below 60% full throttle the voltage drops down to between 12.5 V and 14 V.

Is this (the 16V) going to fry my battery? Or electronic equipment? Do I actually have a Voltage Regulator incorporated with my Rectifier that may have gone bad?

I think you will find the system is unregulated. My V6 pegs at 17V at WOT.You need to keep your water/electrolite level up and check regularly,as it may boil away.
You can add a regulator or a rectifier/regulator.

OK, thanks. Also been doing some additional research that seems to confirm that my motor did not originally have a voltage regulator.

So, it appears that monitoring the battery electrolite level will be part of the ongoing maintenance.

I checked my GPS (currently my only electronic device) and the specs indicate OK for a power supply voltage from 12V to 36V - so no worries there. When I purchase my fish finder I'll make sure it will also handle the higher voltages.
