Hi I'm trying to shorten my longshaft 2006 Mariner/tohatsu 50hp 2-stroke to a short shaft! All I now need is the drive shaft (15") Can anybody help? I have been offered a complete gearbox from a 1979 Mercury/Mariner engine, Will this fit? My Engine was built in Japan not sure if that makes a difference altough some dealers say because its built in japan its not really a Mariner but a Tohatsu, Other bits from Tohatsu engines fit mine!

Re: Mariner/Tohatsu

Old Mariners/Mercs up to medium size were a Yamaha/Brunswick joint venture, new ones small 2.5 to medium 50 HP (2 strokes) are made by Tohatsu in Japan and re exported as Mariner/Mercury/Nissan brands with it's own colors/logos. This new Tohatsu/Brunswick joint venture started 1998, so probably won't fit. If you could try testing gearbox to take the nail out prior buying, would be fantastic.
