Mark 55A and Mark 75A make one motor?

I got an issue. I am building a 50's style 12 foot wooden boat (called ACE) from www.svensons.com. I purchased a mark 55A long shaft and realized the shaft length is too long. Then I found a mark 75A short shaft.
I could make a transom bracket to lift the Mark 55A but esthetically it may look funny.

Problem: the mark 75a is too powerful and probably too heavy for the boat. This information coming from owners of the same boat I am building.

Question: Is it possible for me to take the shaft from the 75A and put it on the 55a motor?

Hi,some good looking engines you have there,I am not sure about the legs matching up but could you use one of these they are not too bad looking.

And then send me your 75A short shaft please,I cant find one over this side of the world. Any pics of the boat would love to see it.

Okay I think I have decided on the Long shaft motor which is the Mark 55A. I will have to add about 4 to 5 inches height to my transom because of the long shaft midsection.

4 to 5 inches seems a bit high to add on. Here is a picture of the type of transom bracket I will add to it. let me know what you think. Good idea or bad?

There is a web site for antique outboard owners and collectors. I don't know it off hand but those guys would know.
