Marking/Transfer Stuff for Fitting a Deck Piece?

Fitting a plywood deck piece in the bow of my boat - compound curves with the "V" of the bow and the tapered sides. Cut to shape from a template, got a good fit but need some fine tuning. Any ideas for a material to put on hull sides that will transfer to "high" spots on deck piece so I can trim them off? Or, something to go on the plywood that will rub off at the "high" spots? Thinking of chalk, but not sure if that's the best way (besides, I don't have any colored chalk on hand).

a flexible strip (possibly 1/4x1/4 pine) will conform to the hull and let you draw a good line

if the gap is bigger use a thicker strip

I made a template of 1/8" door skin material & hot glue. That got me pretty close. I can easily scribe the top surface of the deck for the final fit. The issues now are the "high spots" below the deck surface, where I can't see because of the slope of the hull sides. Obviously the slope of the hull sides is not constant as they sweep up to the "V" of the bow.

OH gotcha... I think in that situation I would make a feeler gauge of thin stock... marking where the problem areas are wit ha pencil and use a hand plane to shave the material

You can buy a plane for under $20 at lowes... I just bought a tiny 3/4" one for $8 last week

Went with colored chalk. Had to go to three places to find some - must be a sign of the times. Rubbed it along the hull where the edge of the deck piece fits, pushed the deck piece in place and there were my four high spots. Planed them down and got the fit I was looking for.

I now have a lifetime supply of colored chalk for future projects.
