I came across a late 60's early 70's Marquis tri-hull bow rider today. Sitting under an opened sided shed with bushes grown up around it made it hard to look at. Boat has a built in 18 gallon gas tank and is full of leaves and junk but floor and transom looked and felt solid as far as I can tell. Manufacturers tag says South Carolina, has a 4 cyl. Mercury 650 on it. Most on the wires on the motor were dry rotted like other merc motors I've seen from this time period. Trailer looked good, of course needed tires. Does anybody have any info on this defunct boat line? Also what is a boat like this worth? I don't know if motor is locked or not, I will stop by and get more info. Thanks Mike

Re: Marquis project boat

I have a Marquis (19 ft) 71 mdl. with a 140 Mercruiser I/O on it. I take it they were not a too widely (mass produced) boat as they are not many around (I tried my best doing searches and only could find 1 or 2). I really enjoy mine. It was in fairly rough shape when I got it but an easy resto.. a pretty nice and solid boat from my exp..

Re: Marquis project boat

I bought the boat today mainly for the motor which I can use on my Glastron if I decide to not fix up this one. Even though the floor seems okay and is not soft, I would imagine that there is rot in the stringers. I am thinking that the boat has settled while on the trailer for the last 12 years. The walkthrough windshield doesn't close properly and the windshield frames aren't bent, so the boat must have "spread", if that makes any sense.

The apartment I live in does have a garage but my upstairs neighbor's living space is right above the garage. I would think the fumes from fiberglassing in new stringers and floor would smell up her apartment. I may swap motors with the Glastron and then sell this one to someone as a project boat. I will post some pics over the weekend.
