Does anyone have any information on the military Johnson outboards? I found a 3 year old post on here about the MARS 35hp but it was very limited. The serial # in the post is similar to mine. It starts with G and is followed by numbers. I can't find any type of guide or reference to my model number. Serial number is missing. I know that a 91 fuel pump fits it. There is an M inside a square above the model number and another M on something I haven't noticed in pictures of other motors near the carb. I think it might be for using compressed air to blow water out of the system after the motor has been submerged. Thanks for any info.

Is there a freeze plug? Look for the freeze plug and sometimes there is a number stamped into it. Have you spent any time checking the shopevinrude.com parts catalog? They list Johnson's too!

That is the serial number. Normally, that serial number would be circa 1965. But I can't say for sure it applies in this case. Are you saying MARS is the model number? That sounds strange. BTW, the M in a square is OMC's logo.

That is the # on the freeze plug and the motor is post 1990 1/2. Military Amphibious Reconnaissance System. I understand they are meant to be submerged then can be tilted to drain water and cranked.
