I just recently got a Martin "40". Only number I can find on it is B 17617. I'm in need of some info on the year and how to repair the pull cord. It only retracts about halfway.

Re: Martin "40"

I believe your motor is a late 47.Points are set at .020,J8C plugs at .035,1/2 pt to a gallon mix use TCW3 rated oil.
If the recoil has not been tampered with it may just need some lubrication.I dont know the Martin
but most recoils can be removed easily and worked on.Just keep in mind there is a coiled spring
that can get out of hand.If it needs more tension
You may be able to remove the rope and add a couple of turns and reinstall the rope.Martins use poppet valves instead of reed valves.
