I don't own a Mastercraft, but I am looking for information on the "Safe-T-Top" that came on the late 80's early 90's Prostar boats. Here's a picture of a 1990 Mastercraft Prostar 190

Anyone know what the T Top is made out of? I would love to make one for my Marlin Arries. Thanks.

Hmmmm, no expert here, but from the looks of it...could be one of these materials...
Aluminum sheeting that is formed and welded over an substructure of aluminum... or fiberglass over some kind of framework, which could be aluminum or wood...

You could fairly easily make one out of a plywood framework and cover it with fiberglass...
Another option would be to make a mold out urethane foam and wrap it in fiberglass...
Yet another idea is to find one in a boat scrap yard and make it fit...
Finally, you could have one welded up...

Maybe, someone here has more knowledge about these and will chime in...

You could also look into the forum over at Mastercraft...

Re: Mastercraft Prostar 190 ?Safe-T-Top'

When I first got my boat, I liked the idea of a wakeboard tower to mount a bimini top and speakers to. I don't ski or wakeboard, but the bimini on my boat now is kinda cheesy. When I looked at the universal towers, they were all $1000+ for something nice and another $800+ for a bimini. So I was looking to weld up my own using some design ideas and 4130 steel. But the boat in the original post was restored by a local shop on display at the Portland boat show.

So now I am thinking I might do something like that out of fiberglass instead. I was thinking a plywood frame with foam core and fiberglass, but I wanted to see if anyone knew what the OE one was made out of. Since it won't be holding a skier, the only requirement is it doesn't fly off at 70mph.

It seems you can get them used but they are too big to ship. I haven't checked out the local bat salvage yard yet, maybe they will have one.
