Hey everyone,
I have a SX 1.95 volvo Penta oudrive,dual prop. (# 3868913)

Engine was a 5.7 Volvo..gone now(cracked block) Bought the boat without the engine, but do have the carburetor, engine mounts, starter etc.but suspect of the mechanical parts condition.

The short of it is I need a complete engine. What kind of conversion do I need to do if I get a Mercruiser? New props etc. Should I stick with the Volvo? I have gotten so much conflicting advice.I'm looking for the most sensible and cost effective way to get the boat going.
Thanks very much in advance, trying to salvage whats left of the season and get on the water for the first time with the new boat!

Safe and happy boating guys.

LOL, So you thought posting on a forum where eveyone that has a keyboard can give their opinion, rather they know what they are talking about or not was the way to get the final word ???????.

There is no single answer for your question.
If you happen to find a used Volvo of your year that is complete for $5000, I would think that would be better than a complete mercruiser setup with drive for $5000.
Instrument, controls, cables, trim pump, etc., are already there and Volvo. Why convert.
It just depends on what you can find

Agreed, but when the drunk at the club says "volvo's suck..go mercruiser, that's all I've ever worked with." I will gladly take my chances on a forum with some people who specifically want to talk "Volvo Penta." Gotta loe those guys but looking outside where the boat sits is a little less political ;)

Thanks for the reply, seems logical and i agree as well. why mess with it. just throwing it out their and see what I can get from a different venue as I find this place pretty darn informative.

Let me ask this. Do you have things like the flywheel cover, coupler, flywheel, alternator, intake manifold, distributor, fuel pump system, pulleys for the front, basically everything but the long block?

Don, sorry for the delay.Yes, I do have the alternator,Power steering pump, starter, front pulleys, intake man.,cap&wires.

No bell housing,

Since I have these things I was looking into something like Michigan Motorz.Partial motor options..they have a few different levels of engine with more or less parts that are direct fit to my outdrive.
Been having a tough time finding used here.

added bonus to my issues...does anybody know if the pulleys , steering steering pump will fit for a GM block but they came off a Ford?
