Time to make a new boat cover for my boat. 20 foot open bow. The origonal was on it when I bought it in 1997 it was 6 months old so i have no idea what it was made from and a lots changed since then. Very thick canvas like material. Boats stored outside and sees full four seasons hefty snow lots of rain hot summer. And its served me well. Im in south central Washington we hit tripple digits in the summer hard rain 6 months a year and some hefty snow at times. Material needs to breathe well but not leak. Some of the materials I have seen have some sort of waterproofing which i worry will hold moisture which can be just as bad or worse than it actually letting water in. I have a wooden support system that deals with snow loads and prevents pooling. One other question is what color is best. The original is a dark blue it still looks pretty good for 21 years but I wonder if lighter is better to reduce heat in the summer or if a darker color promotes drying under the cover? I know a darker one will not look as stained over time. Cost isnt that much of a concern if the cover holds up and does its job ill be happy.
