I know the topic of what materials to use on projects has been covered pretty well on here, but I can't seem to find what I am looking for. I will be replacing my deck for sure this winter and possibly the substructure if needed. Can anyone point me to a post that has a material list of what would be used for this. I have paged through a lot of posts but a list isn't something I can find. Thanks

Re: Material List

That's a great start. Thanks. I have a 1996 StarCraft 2010 with a 5.7L Merc/Alpha1. What materials do you recommend for the stringers and transom?

Re: Material List

ACX exterior grade plywood
MDO (medium density overlay, NOT MDF, the carp knockdown furniture is made of)
Auracu
Marine Plywood

Can all be used for transoms, stringers, deck & any seat/storage boxes you need to redo. Some can't easily get marine plywood (which is the most expensive) or find the Auraco locally. I used ACX & MDO to make my Duracraft's transom.

Depending on the layout & construction of your boat, 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" thick ply for the deck. Using something other then the thickness of plywood Starcraft used originally, may cause fitment problems w/ the consoles & windshield. Slight changes, like using 5/8" instead of 1/2" won't be nearly as problematic as using 3/4" instead of 1/2". Sometimes it won't make any difference, depends on how your boat was built.

Since it's an I/O motor, you'll probably need 2 pieces of 3/4" to make the actual transom plywood blank, then 3/8"+/- ply to make the 'horse collar' plywood ring that fits just at the keyhole to make the total lamination (including the fiberglass inner & outer skins) 2-2.25" thick thru the keyhole.
