Max RPMs for merc 150

I know the max RPMs are 5000 to 5500, but I get the best permance running at 5800 to 5900, will this kill my motor more quickly??<br />The motor is 1985 150 Merc

G'day. I have run big mercs over 6 grand with good results. I have heard of people running up to 10 Grand. If you want to run in very high revs you should consider plastic reed valves.<br />You only live once, If you enjoy running your outboard at high revs than go fo it. you may have to look at rebuilding sooner but what the heck.

Thanks guys, I will have fun with this engine, when it goes up in smoke, it only takes money to fix ??
