Hello to all,
I am new to this forum so hopefully I am in the right place.
From what I have read so far it seems a great site to be on.

We have a maxum 21' cuddy cabin. Reasonably happy with the boat as it has a new engine and upholstry. Does have a few glitches, such as the fuel guage never seems to work properly, and a couple of untidy bits under the dash, but on the whole generally is quite good.

I have been wondering and looking at the design of the bow cabin, as it is a really unused space and oh boy what a pain to drop and retrieve the anchor. And to do a bit of fishing is sometimes a bit of a problem.
I have been considering cutting the roof section out, taking the 'seating' or bed area out partially in the centre and bracing with wood and fibreglass so the one can quite easily walk forward to the bow. I would not really have to alter the floor plan at all as the is a natural floor there when the center cushions are taken out.
There is a natural bulge want of a better description along the top, so what I was thinking of doing is cutting this natural bulge out togother with the window that sits on the top and reworking the fibreglass to make it a clean edge.
I would then put struts down to join up with the natural floor, these would fix to the base of the bed tat is left on both sides
I know that I would somehow have to support the left side of the dash and take into consideration the windscreen as this rests on part of the section to be removed. But from what I can see, it would be supprted from the bottom in a similar manner as the parts left at the bow when bulge removed. I could even put a fibreglass wall there the same as the other side.
My experience with boats is limited I must confess, but my experience with wood and fibreglass is fairly extensive.

I would welcome comments about the possiblity and feasability and some basic principles.

Thank you.

If you are gonna go that far with it, just cut out the whole front deck and dash. glass a cap on your cut edge and install a center console..... or better yet, sell the boat and buy one you like better..... better and cheaper in the long run

Welcome to iBoats forums. That seems like an awful lot of work to achieve a 21' bowrider. There are PLENTY of bowriders out there. Smaller cuddy cabins are much harder to find , and preferred by some(notice the boat in my signature below). My boat was exactly what I was looking for , to suit my needs.
Have you considered selling yours and looking for a boat that would suit your needs better ?

Thank you for the replies.
Yes we have tried selling it but no interest at all, we have even tried bartering for a small center console one etc, even considered sending it over to Scotland and using it to cruise up and down Loch Ness as we have a home there.
I have even tried to barter my 2 motorcycles for a small center console etc......................Guess what no takers.

So after looking at what I have on the boat with the cabin area, I thought it would make logical sense to do the conversion..................My wife even found a cheap console for me, but I thought it would be a simple solution to a nagging problem, I just don't like the roof cabin area..

So.....anyway, I am back to where I started really.... could this be done without causing a problem with the integrity of the boat?

Anyway, anyone out there want to trade??....................Just a thought.

Re: maxum 21.....conversion

I'm relatively new to iboats, but I have seen a few of these type of threads come and go. My suggestion for you (and for the rest of the forum in order to provide any suggestions or advice) is to think about what you desire to some extent. Get some measurements and make some drawings of existing and your desire for the end result. Then we have something to work with.

Post your drawings (scan 'em) and post pics. If you have no pics, your thread is certainly going to die, here.

I am certainly interested in complete tear-downs and reconfiguration / remodeling - even into something entirely different.

Cheers!
