Hello to all,
I am new to this forum so hopefully I am in the right place.
From what I have read so far it seems a great site to be on.
We have a maxum 21' cuddy cabin. Reasonably happy with the boat as it has a new engine and upholstry. Does have a few glitches, such as the fuel guage never seems to work properly, and a couple of untidy bits under the dash, but on the whole generally is quite good.
I have been wondering and looking at the design of the bow cabin, as it is a really unused space and oh boy what a pain to drop and retrieve the anchor. And to do a bit of fishing is sometimes a bit of a problem.
I have been considering cutting the roof section out, taking the 'seating' or bed area out partially in the centre and bracing with wood and fibreglass so the one can quite easily walk forward to the bow. I would not really have to alter the floor plan at all as the is a natural floor there when the center cushions are taken out.
There is a natural bulge want of a better description along the top, so what I was thinking of doing is cutting this natural bulge out togother with the window that sits on the top and reworking the fibreglass to make it a clean edge.
I would then put struts down to join up with the natural floor, these would fix to the base of the bed tat is left on both sides
I know that I would somehow have to support the left side of the dash and take into consideration the windscreen as this rests on part of the section to be removed. But from what I can see, it would be supprted from the bottom in a similar manner as the parts left at the bow when bulge removed. I could even put a fibreglass wall there the same as the other side.
My experience with boats is limited I must confess, but my experience with wood and fibreglass is fairly extensive.
I would welcome comments about the possiblity and feasability and some basic principles.
Thank you.
