Maxum fuel filler problem

I'm having problems getting fuel into my 1990 maxum. When filling at the petrol station, a load of air comes back up the filler pipe and occasionally showers me, and other bystanders, in fuel. I can only fill it really, really slowly (it took me 45 mins to get 100 litres in it today!). I've checked the breather hose which is working fine. The filler hose is free of obstruction too. Any ideas?

your vent hose is either plugged or has a poor routing the other possibility is vent in fuel tank is to long

i have a 1995 maxum 2000SC and there is nothing cloged and it does pretty much the same thing if there is two much weight in the stern

if i stand on the gas dock instead of the boat it flows much better and if i have someone sit in the bow it goes in like a car

tommays

Tommays,... Have you ever figured out Why that is ??

I'm curious,... might come into play with My changing out different tanks in My project boat.........
Never had the problem,...Never thought about it....

Is the vent fitting's placement, or position On the tank a factor ??

To Close to the filler fitting ??
To far Aft ??

Bondo

the vent is at the stern of the tank very close to the filler hose and that seams to be the bigest cause

it seams to be the angle of the boat when its on the trailer my pickup has a high hitch and fills hard at the pump also

put it level in the water or just one person in the bow and it fills perfect

its not like i can do much with the lenth of the vent they welded into the tank

i think they just built a hafe a?? vent system in the tank and unless the CG makes them recall it i have learned to live with it

tommays

Thanks for your help - I'll check out the hoses again and look at the position of the boat on the trailer. Failing that, I can always undo the jubilee clip and fill directly into the tank! Cheers and happy boating, Rich.

Have either of you tried turning the nozzle from the pump upside down or sideways? There are times when my boat acts close to yours. Usually just trips the shut-off every 5 seconds. I have found if I mess around rotating the nozzle, or even try different depths into the filler, that I can find a postition that lets it flow.

Well,.... I guess it's probably As Important to make Sure the tank vent is Forward of the Fill,.....
As it is to put a Loop in the vent line, Higher than the Outlet................

I'll have to Remember that.......... ;)

Thanks Tommays....
