about to purchase a service manual for my '98 90hp Merc. The manual cover says "with serial numbers OD283222 and above". My serial number is OG721621. Based on everything I can find, this seems to be the right manual for my motor but I sure would appreciate confirmation either way from some of you Mercury experts. I have always owned Johnson motors so I am having to become familiar with new info. Like I said probably a stupid question but I'd rather look stupid than spend money n the wrong manual...then spend money on the right one...haha thanks guys

Holdout for the manual that matches your engine, unless you can buy it for 10.00.

I guess thats what I'm tryin to do here....just wanting to know if this is the right one. It does say "OD283222 and above" and mine is OG721621...so my reasoning is "G" is after "D" in the alphabet and 721 is a higher number than 283 so I should consider mine to fall into the "and above" category but just not sure....man Johnson/Evinrude seems to be so much easier to decifer, they just have manuals listed as "1979 85, 100, 115, 140"...no guess work, figuring or interpretation..at least on the older models

Thump, Clanton and I think you are considering a Seloc or Clymer manual. If you are not experienced with Merc outboards get an OEM manual, covering your exact motor. If you are experienced, the Seloc and Clymer manuals have some value.

You can look up the serial number for your year at maxrules.com

Unfortunately, maxrules does not list past 1996.

0D283222 thru to 0G760299 is the correct manual for your motor, this serial number range includes your model (3 cyl, 2 stroke). The genuine merc part # is 90-830234R04.
