So I just got some news that could be GREAT! I work for my father's company and we are currently looking for a new building with a little more space. One of the buildings he is looking at is an old Marine shop that closed down about a year back. I drove past it the other day and there are four boats sitting in the lot behind the building still. None have engines that I can tell, but it looks like there is two fiberglass open bows... maybe wellcrafts??? one Startcraft that may be an old islander, and a little custom looking jet boat. The two fiberglass boats are probably junk but the starcraft may salvagable. I have no idea what the jet boat is but I would love a chance to restore one of those if I could find an engine! My dad also told me that there are older outboards laying around the warehouse area and some other random parts. The building is for sale not lease so I would assume he would own the boats if he bought the building. Is this a scenario that I would need to get an abandonment title? I live in KY and have never heard of an Abandonment title until i started reading on here. I guess I would have to contact the old owner of the Marine shop to see where they came from and who they belong to.

It just seems so odd that they left this stuff here. I'm sure most of it is garbage, but if just one of those boats is repairable.... then He** Yea!!

Oh yah, you nailed it. The Islander will last forever, just a referb every 50 years or so. The glass boats are disposable after all the metal stuff is ripped off/out:D

Don't listen to JAS!!! Those glasssers can be restored too!!! You just have to be a REAL boat restorer to do them!!! Or is that REAL CRAZY boat restorer!!!!:D
All kidding aside, IF you get ownership you can probably sell what you don't want/need on Craigslist and pay for the cost of the restoration(s) of those you do want. Sounds like a total Win Win situation to me!!!!

Yah sorry, kidding aside (or was I serious:p:D)....

You will certainly want to figure who actually owns those boats and what it will take to gain title/registration. You'll want to have this happen before you hook it up and haul it home for the rebuild.

My guess is they are left behind for a reason. I can think of a 1/2 dozen reasons right off...

Yeah, that Islander should be easy to restore..Its only taken Jas 2 and half years to almost finish his :):D.... (In all fairness, he did restore a cool little boat in the middle of all that... and also had a 2 week affair with a small row boat named walleye snot...followed by sea nymph acquisition)....

I really didn't have anything productive to add the above to the above^^^^ - just saw a window to poke at my friend, Jas.

I agree...Get clean title, pick the boat you want (islander is probably the best candidate) and sell the rest to fund your build.

I will be going past there tonight and will be able to look. What kind of star am I looking for?

I'm not sure if this is where you going with this but maybe thats why their sitting there... they were stolen and couldn't get titled so they gutted them and abandoned them... I wouldn't think a marine shop would do something like that but I've heard some pretty nasty storries on here about what these marine shops really "work on" I will definatly check to see if it has stars. I'm not %100 its an Islander or even a starcraft. From the sound of it I hope it is!! I'll try and snap some pictures tonight if I can get through the gate.

Re: May have hit the jack pot!!!

Finally got to go for a closer look yesterday. Sorry I was sadly mistaken. No starcrafts. There are 5 boats all fiberglass and gutted from what I could tell. I couldn't tell what most of them were due to the weeds being too high but I could see there was one old tri hull and one was a roughly 20' gallaxy open bow. They are probably all junk and even if the hulls weren't junk they are gutted so it would be a little out of my price range to restore these. There was I think two little custom jet boats that looked kinda cool.. maybe something to hang onto for a while.

:eek::eek:

Empty glass hull = OSHA health hazard with a disposal fee:rolleyes:

Empty alum hull = Blank canvas ready for the artists touch:)

Have a great day Cad:p:D

Re: May have hit the jack pot!!!

got to go out and walk about a bit yesterday and i noticed that inside the show room, as I said it is still filled with inventory on the shelves, there is a MINT cowl for an old evinrude 33, I am almost sure of it! Its is the same blue and white and definitely smaller 60's or 70's motor. I just couldn't see any decals that said 33. from what I understand these motors are pretty popular for restores so that might be a good find. I can't wait to see what the building looks like on the inside. I found out that they were forclosed on so that is why the selves are still full and I heard a rumor that there are a few complete OB motors hanging up in the back of the show room! :D can I get a He** Yea!!
