Maybe a silly question

Hi folks, I have a 1996 Wellcraft with a VP 4.3L with the Volvo SX drive. I am wondering about the need to go the Anti Freeze route vs just draining the motor of water, I just replaced the manifolds and put petcocks at the back ends of the manifolds, and I can now drain water from the motor via the 2 petcocks on the sides of the motor and drain the manifolds to the back. Do I need to do any other draining, if so can I put a petcock at this location. I am trying to make it so i can use my boat occasionally in the winter on nicer days. Right now it is fogged and topped off with AF but I was just curious as to what my risks would be with just going to dry in the cooling system. I also have PS and a PS cooler. other than that it is Raw Water cooled with the Raw water pump down low and off to the side of the main pulley. Also, just out of curiosity has any one ever placed a fitting somewhere in the cooling system to blow out the cooling system, kind of like the way you blow out a sprinkler system with a compressor. That might be a good solution as well.

I'd disconnect the power steering cooler & the feed for the raw water pump & the large hose at the engine circulating pump......
You do not need AF.....;)
Oh, & the air compressor will only do so much, waste of time, IMO.....

I would dump the petcocks and stay with pipe plugs. Too much chance of something getting caught in them and for most you cannot stick a wire all the way thru them to make sure they are clear.

Many a block has been broke because someone opened the '****'s and all of the water did not drain out. It can even happen with pipe plugs but at least you can stick something clear into the block/manifold.
