Bought a new gas line for my outboard the other day, hooked it up, and wanted to barrel test it on the balcony.

Spent 15 minutes cranking & squishing the ball on the line, but couldn't get it to feed the motor gas. Took the line in the tank off and checked it, checked both gas filters, made sure the pressure release on the tank was open, no luck.

Gave up and went in to eat. After dinner I went back out to looked at it and my non-motor-expert girlfriend came out for moral support and said within seconds, you hooked it up backwards.

It is a OMC line with a Evinrude connection on both ends, but made in Italy. It said “Tank” in Italian on the bulb with an arrow right next to the word "Tank", so I hooked it up with the arrow pointing to the tank. DUH!

Turned it around, one pump on the bulb, first crank, and it starts and purrs like new.

Her comment and reaction. Let me know if you have any more motor problems I can help you with, wink, big smile, and a kiss. :D

Maybe I should be stupid more often! ;)

Now, now, this is a family forum. Keep it clean.

Besides a gentleman never talks. :p

I noticed you like classic transportation. If you would like, check out my Photo Blog, for some from the other side of the Atlantic. http://blogargraphy.blogspot.com/

P.S. By the way, how many cars do you have?

Some beautiful classic european iron you have there ST!
Right now I am only left with memories, I'm divorced, remarried, have a new bi-level house in the suburbs (me & the bank :D) old, retired, & poor, but I manage to have a nice 2005 Hyundai Tucson LX V6 4WD (to tow my old 19' Bayliner Skiboat with a 125hp Force), and a 98' Dodge Neon Sport coupe (to tow my old Yamaha Waveventure 1100cc jet ski), and just recently hit a tree, & totaled out my nice older Chevy S-10 pickup (dozed off at the wheel) at least I'm ok, but mourn the use of my truck :(

I hafta laugh, when I was about 14, the only car I ever wanted, and used to dream about was a Jaguar XK120! I was smitten with the styling!

I too, am old & poor, but not retired. Just under worked, economy really $uck$ here. I need to come home.

That “classic european iron” is not mine. I was involved in historic racing for many years, and sometimes when I was lucky someone would throw me the keys. I also do a little photography work and boats, cars, motorcycles, and airplanes are my favorite subjects, if you don't count women. :D

People often build these things just to have them for investments, and if you have a good reputation for being equipment friendly and promise not to crash, they let you drive them, for them, at race events. :D Sort of like the owners of race horses.

I hear you with the XK120, had the same disease. But after having lived in Europe and driven these types of cars, you really do start to appreciate those that we grew up with in the States.

It is funny, most of my friends here with older cars, all have classic Detroit muscle cars. There is something magical about dancing around a road track with 600+hp. The people in the stands, stand up and cheer ever time they pass. :D:D:

By the way, your Bayliner has some really nice lines.

P.S. Down at the bottom of the blog page is some Detroit stuff!

Re: Maybe I should be stupid more often!

I really miss having those old musclecars! One of My Favs was The 63' Plymouth 426 Auto. Ramcharger Sport Fury (showroom "track only" model, I shudder to think what that may be worth today ). I had some minor thrills about 5yrs ago when we picked up a sharp looking all Black 79'- Z28 Camaro for my stepson, and I put a mild cam in it. We had some fun with him taking it to the local car shows on Fridays, what with the sleek, shiny, looks, & a slightly lumpy cam, till we found out the rear frame was rusted out beyond repair, then we had to sell it at a slight loss :( with full disclosure to the new owner.

Yeah, thanks, the Bayliner is a rare 89' Ski boat model I picked up last year, that is made like a Bayliner Cobra (but not all blue metalflake) it is lighter, & lower, then the std. 19' Bayliner, with a built in ski pole and more lifting strakes in the hull (I think for quicker planing, & more speed for skiing), and wrap around lounge seats in the back, But there's almost no storage, & you hafta squat in it mostly, it's so low

I hear you about the economy, it's not much better over here lately.
Well, have a good day ST
