OK,
My trim gauge senders did not send consistent signals, trim limit switched did not work, I wanted to re-use the gauge holes for voltage gauges, the pumps were leaking, the wiring was a mess, without the gauge senders there is a bunch of unneeded plumbing. I also need to de-clutter my engine compartment.
for all these reasons I decided to upgrade to Alpha 1 floor mounted trim pumps. I bought a kit on ebay with all the needed parts. Here are the install steps:
1. Remove all hydraulic lines in the engine well. Use container to catch dripping oil
2. Unplug the 3 wire plugs from the pumps
3. Remove power and ground wires from pumps (probably should have done this first)
4. Unbold and remove pumps mine were mounted to the inner transom assembly
5. Find a place to mount the alpha pumps. I used the metal mounting bases and moved them to the floor in the battery well
6. Set bases in place with pumps attached.
7. I used a tubing bender and 1/4 inch copper tubing and ran hard lines back to the transom
8. Install new hydraulic lines (pulled them through the transom) and attached to the new distribution plates on the outer transom assembly. Run them directly to the pump bypassing the reverse lockout solenoids and switches
Here the battery well after the installation
