MC1 drive installation

I have a MC1 1979 outdrive. After basically rebuilding my boat, engine, transom stringers, cables, bellows, etc. I am now putting the outdrive back on! I know, its October!

I aligned the engine and it came out really well. checked after torqued front mounts also.

The drive is on all the way but the last 1/8". The remote control is in forward, although the lower shift cable is not attached yet to the shift plate. The lower and intermediate shift shafts are in forward and one has slid into the other. the prop is bungeed to lock counterclockwise. the shift lever and slide are position correctly.

It took some bumping to get it this far. I cannot turn the prop counterclockwise and as deep as the spline shaft is in the coupler, the splines must be lined up.

Does the rubber gasket in the bell housing compress when bolts are torqued........should I tighten the bolts?

or am I missing something?

thanks

Re: MC1 drive installation

If you are only missing 1/8", its just the rubber gasket not compressing. If the alignment was right, tighten them down and go.
