Hello McCulloch
I had a couple of those motors a few years back. I belive I found the imfo I needed at the public library. This was prior to internet. I have seen sites on the net. We will have to have some one else tell how to get there.

I don't know of your outboard specifically, but as I understand it, McCulloch stopped making outboats in 1968... you might try looking around at: http://www.vintageoutboard.com/ they might have what you need.

Doing a search, I found this.. but its a google cached page and may be gone now..

http://216.239.51.100/search?q=cach...speedbot/McCullo.htm+McCulloch+outboard&hl=en

it might be worth a look though. (you'll have to cut and paste that url into a browser bit by bit)

rgds

Frank

Hi McMulloch
These are just some ideas. You said you freed the motor. Are you sure you have compression? Did you use a gauge to test? When you cleaned the points did you get the fly wheel keyed to the crankshaft properly? You said you have fuel. Do you have fuel in the cylenders? Are the spark plugs wet? Did you clean up the carb? Are the needle valves set correctly? As I recall those motors use a unique carb system. Do you have the spark wires crossed. Is the point gap set right?
I'll guess and say .020? If we have compression in the combustion chamber, air\fuel\oil and spark at the right time, it will at least pop. Well keep working on it, I have a feeling it's a simple little thing. let us know how you make out.

yeah i work on it a little everyday , today im about to check on the carb , even when i spray ether in the chamber i get no pop ..... is there a chance that my coils are weak and it cant fire under compression ???? im gonna get new sparkplugs...

Hi McCulloch
I think just about anything is possiable. Unless you can see a problem with your coils,(cracks, arcing to the stator plate, etc) odds are thier ok. Since you have spark, I would look at plugs. Were you able to come up with specs for that motor? Please don't use any more of that ether. There is no oil in it, it's not good for your motor. Or any other motor, in my opinion. To test, or prime, just squirt a little pre-mix in it. gasoline is violot stuff. If you got fire, it's going to burn.

Re: McCulloch 7 1/2

I just picked up one of these motors and was able to find some info at the library. Glenn's Marine Series, Sears Outboard Motor Guide, appears to be the same motor I have which is a 63 Scott McCulloch 7.5 fishing motor. The guide is a complete repair manual for this Scott and a few with less and more hp.

As far it not starting have you opened the vent on the fuel tank? If you don't open this and it does start on choke you may damage your fuel pump. Don't worry. I know a fellow that can order a snow machine fuel pump for about 30 Canadian that replaces the original. Anyway hope this works. Get back to me if it does.

Re: McCulloch 7 1/2

Try putting a spoonful or two of premix directly into the spark plug holes into the cylinder and see if it pops. Put some new plugs in before you try it again.
