Meaning of VRO horn beeps?

I have a 1990 or 1991 (Model #TE60TELENE) 60HP Evinrude with VRO. The VRO beeps once each time I turn on the ignition. I think this means the electronic warning system is working ok.

I need to know how to interpret the beeps so that if I have a problem I will know what the warning means.

I bought the boat from an individual and did not get a manual or other engine information. It has operated fine until recently it has begun sounding one beep about each 45 seconds while it is running.

I just now remembered replacing the voltage regulator a short time ago (before the beep began). Might this have caused the beep to start?

Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Nail Head

According to Clymers, "if the oil level in the tank drops below the 1/4 full point, the warning horn sounds for 1/2 second every 20 seconds.
1986 and later, a no oil warning sounds 1/2 second every second. If the power head exceeds 211 degrees F, the horn sounds continuosly".

Newell

Thanks Newell, I'll recheck the oil level in the reservoir. I looked at it before I used it last Saturday and thought it was about 1/2 full.

At least I now know what those beeps mean. I gotta keep this thing in good shape, my 2 grandsons like to fish too much for me to let it go down.

Thanks and best regards to you,

Nail Head
