Here is a prime example of a liberal scare tactic at work:

Defeat of measure 30

99% of the 'pass measure 30' campaigns is nothing more than scare tactics, and I've just about had it listening to it.
They want to make you think that the sky is gong to fall and the world come to an end if this latest tax hike fails.
And what really Peeves me off is the teachers at school imposing their views of it to our children. "If your parents don't vote yes, your school will close" etc...

Well, TOO BAD Oregon state... Measure 30 will fail!
Live like the rest of us for once and stop spending money! Live within your budget for a change.

BOO HOO HOO!!

Read my lips Mr. 'Tax-and-Gouge-me'... No more money! How about you make those welfare moms work, and the drug addicts pay for their own rehab?

Fellow Oregonians: Vote NO on measure 30 next month. Everyone I know will be.

I could vent for hours on this state's waste of tax money...

H.

They pull that sort of crap all the time. Remember a few months ago when the teachers in ME were giving the children of service people all sorts of grief about Iraq?

That is the only profession where people's performance isn't evaluated and they can't be fired.

I bet 95% of the teachers really believe what they are telling the children. Most of them are just reapeating the mindless banter that their unions leaders are spewing. It is ashame that such a beautifull part of America is just running itself into banktruptcy. You would think that these Lib's could just glance a little South to see what these policies have done to California and stop the madness. Oh well, it is a proven fact to be a radical Lib the first thing you have to do is forget any and all history.

That does seem to be the case Tex... It seems especially true when it comes to defense.

It is no doubt true that an educated populace is the enemy for conservatives if they wish to gain and retain power.

For some rreason, I was unable to download that article to see what you are talking about exactly, but as far as education goes, not to worry-some districts in Washington State are paying signing bonuses, and a higher salary, to qualified science and math teachers, so your good Oregon teachers will be able to find better jobs.

This is kind of a reverse Darwinian theory where Oregon will be able to retain those teachers that can't find a job elsewhere, and you will be able to endlessly complain about kids coming out of school unable to make change at McDonalds.

Just one time I hope that if this measure fails, they make equal cuts in Beaverton schools as they do in Portland inner city schools, and they avoid making wholesale cuts to those that have little political clout, like special ed and vocational rehab. I know that's dreaming, of course, and the Beaverton folks would not stand for it, but one can wish.

Re: Measure 30 in Oregon... I am so sick of the scare tactics

I still say 99% of it is BS.

Mark my words... they WILL miraculously find funding when the measure fails.

It happened last time... We voted down (I think measure 28) and they layed people off...
Well.. as luck would have it... they hired them ALL back with a few to spare! Hmmm..

Get this...
I just learned from my nephew that his school had an assembly about measure 30 a few days ago. The teacher was telling them about all the cuts and whatnot that will happen if it fails.
He was also trying to explain that everyone would be paying EQUALLY in accordance with the cost of living raises etc...

One student stood up and said that "Not everyone gets a raise, and not everyone works"
Apparently that student was dismissed from the assembly.

Yes sir... democracy at work.

Teachers have NO right to impose their political views to the students. Again... a scare tactic.

H.

Re: Measure 30 in Oregon... I am so sick of the scare tactics

I think that Plywoody and all who share his philosphy on the Oregon Tax issue should, perhaps, move to Oregon and 'volunteer' to increase the amount of taxes that they pay to the state.

Oregon, while already suffering from a gross Napolianic Complex, ranks near the top in what it pays it's teachers. It also ranks near the top in per capita student funding. In addition to this, inspite of the current state budget crisis, Oregon school funding has increased 11%. .

But they keep screaming. How many times will the gullible left wing voters keep swallowing the fear? I think as long as they expect the State to raise their children, they'll keep buying it. Except maybe this time. All indications are that this measure is going down in flames.

Please-No offense intended, but are you kidding?
You are complaining about $111/year? 30 cents a day? A penny an hour?
I might be mistaken about this, but a friend of mine recently moved to Portland, and was going on and on about the low cost of living, particularly the taxes. Is it true there is no state sales tax there?
If thats true, you're probably saving at least a couple grand a year right there alone.
;-)

Re: Measure 30 in Oregon... I am so sick of the scare tactics

No offense taken Toad...

But I must say:

$111 helps put food in MY families mouth and a roof over their heads.
What's the point of getting a raise if I am taxed more?
Speaking of which.. I haven't had a raise in a long time. Due to? You guessed it...OUR economy.

$111 a year that I don't have to pay for some drug-addict crack-head or welfare mom.

$111 a year that the state and it's worthless governor doesn't get.

I don't give one rat's behind about this state's money issues, and they are not going to give us this snow job of an excuse for raising taxes.
They need to live within their budget like everyone else.

Stop the waste, and maybe I'll consider giving money to the programs that honestly need it.
There are so many BS programs they want to fund. Makes me sick.

And YES... I am moving... hopefully soon out of this rat-hole. It's not that easy to pick up and go with a family to support.

Read the news... Oregon is quickly losing major businesses and people because of the taxes and poor economy.
We may or may not be a cheap place to live, but taxes are taxes... and Oregon has gone overboard.

And they have already tried to pass a sales tax... 9 TIMES and we voted it down, thank God.
What do you want to bet they will pull some more crap behind our backs like this measure 30 and approve the sales tax?

And do you REALLY think that if measure 30 passed...they would stop taxing us after the 3 years they say it would be in effect? NOT!

Dunno why I'm getting so worked up.. Measure 30 is going to fail in a major way anyhow...
I honestly think Oregon needs to hit rock bottom and bankrupt. It's the only way the Liberals will understand what they have done to this state.

H.

Re: Measure 30 in Oregon... I am so sick of the scare tactics

Hi Homerr,

Nobody likes to pay taxes, and everybody hates to see government waste, but its reality, and its rampant.

For example, I tend to replace my car every year. I pay 7% federal tax and 7.5% State (Provincial) tax every time I do it. Drives me nuts.

Not sure what I pay in Provincial taxes overall, but I'd rather pay $111/year than 7.5% on everything I purchase from milk to outboards...

They will get the tax they need some how. If its not from a special surcharge it will be from State tax, if not from toll charges, if not from tobacco taxes, or liquor tax, or gasoline tax or plastic bag tax...

;-)

Homerr
Let your Heart not be troubled! :)

America (and Oregon) will survive. In the early 20th Century 1910-1912 Stalin made a list of 151 things that needed to happen to bring AMERICA DOWN! On the top of the list was to divide us by race.. which almost worked! Then to infiltrate our educational system. Which Worked Big time!
Todays Demon-crates and Liberals just "Think they Free Thinking" people! They are Stalin Graduates!
And don't even know it!
:( ((

Just my 2 cents worth

Re: Measure 30 in Oregon... I am so sick of the scare tactics

Your stats on Oregon schools, and the national ranking, are, of course, bogus.
Portland, at least, has had to reduce the school year, due to budget restraints.
And Oregon's taxes are low, compared to the rest of the nation. In Michigan, for example, we pay a comparable income tax to Oregonians, and we pay 6% sales tax.
Services cost money. Without money, those services can't be maintained. Perhaps you don't need the services offered, or have been wasting tons of money and a cut won't be felt.
Time will tell.
Good luck.

Re: Measure 30 in Oregon... I am so sick of the scare tactics

Oh yes. Come one, come all to the wonderful Peoples Republic of Oregon. Why amidst this recession, they have even mandated a State visit to your home when you have a new child. Isn't it wonderful and caring how the State wants to be sure that you have what it takes to raise your new child. Isn't it wonderful, in the midst of such economic hardship that the State has allocated such scarce resources because they CARE?

Don't you worry Homerr. This one is going to one for the record books. Even your gullible misguided neighbors are going to put their foot (left?) down big time.
