Measuring heights for a small aux outboard?

Hi all - I know how to measure for the shaft length for a main outboard, but am in a position to get a superb deal on a barely used Honda 5hp 2006 engine if I'm quick.

Apparently it measures 23" from top inside of the bracket, to the anti ventilation plate, or around 27.5 from bracket to centre prop line.
Now my transom is apart currently but has holes where an aux was previously fitted and it measures approx 21.5" from top bracket holes to bottom of the hull directly beneath.

Given that an outboard bracket will allow some room for movement here depending on positioning and where it's a movable bracket etc I think this engine is perfect. I want to tell the guy I'll have it as it's a steal, but would love if someone could advise on this or direct me to suitable measuring info.

I've tried rapid googling but only keep finding stuff in reference to the main outboard and height from transom top to keel.

Appreciate any rapid advice!

I'd have to be there to help on what the correct numbers are. But you do want to ensure that the prop sees new water when operating and that it is out of the water when not in use. On the former, if you can go around to the bow of your boat and while looking down (under) the hull, see a full prop of your kicker, it is properly mounted. If you only see half a prop or the like, you will only get half the performance.

Re: Measuring heights for a small aux outboard?

Thanks for your input Mark

I've bought the motor now and I have to say I'm delighted as it's a beauty and in cracking condition etc.
Offering it up to the boat temporarily I can see it will be fine but I'll have to sort out what sort of mount I need and the precise positioning etc.

I'd prefer a static one for reliability if I can, but want to ensure the aux is well clear of the water when not in use of course.
Not an issue right now though, and I can bask in bargain achievement status quite nicely.

Ended up talking to the guy for far too long, and was surprised when a girl I work with arrived at his house as it turns out she's his son's other half. Small world!
