Hello all, just received my new fuel pump. Was instaling it and noticed that the outlet and inlet are on the same side of the pump. Compared it to my old one and the inlet is almost 180 degrees from the outlet. So.... this new one has placed in inlet right against the starter motor housing.

This must be an assembly error, right?

Thanks all, trying to go boating this weekend.

Are you sure that there is not a plug in the proper place? On the Ford pumps, I think there are alternate positions for the inlet/outlet fittings.

hello
its common on the new 2.5 and 3.0 pumps. but double check your part numbers. the last 2 or 3 I did the pump came from mercs parts microfiche and the inlets were different had to use a 90* fitting on the inlet. must be just more merc stuff. I took one apart to see if I could clock it but the new style is not clockable.

Will call supplier tomorrow and see if what's up.

Thanks for the idea of the 90deg elbow, could use that if my barb fitting will then screw into the elbow.

Boomyal, no plugs in the wrong place here. It just looks like the bottom half of the fuel pump was installed backwards. Wish there was a plug and I could just swap it and be done.
