1977 24'/Bayliner/VP350GM. New auto rebuilder core of unknown year was installed in 1996 with all marine stuff transferred. Again, not sure of year, but all the stuff fit. And 350 small blocksd cover generations. I'm the second owner, so thats all I know. Problem is the mechanical fuel pump started dribbling gas out the 5/16th's vent or whatever it is on the side. In and out fittings are brass. Its a Volvo Penta Carter Pump that goes for $89+ at ebasicpower! This pump is used on race cars if looked up at CSK. Why can't I use cheaper one with 3/8 black fuel hose and hose fittings? Rubber is forever-brass lines fatigue and crack. Just putt around at 3000RPM all day. Thanks in advance, Robby
Ps. Its a GOOD idea to inspect the engine bay EVERYTIME ya got out. Glad I spotted this. Paranoia pays off!

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Question

Marine fuel pumps vent directly into the intake. They are equipped to do so in the event of the diaphram failing. You will not get that capability with a regular automotive pump. I would suggest just spend the money and do it with original parts.

Bob

Ditto on what bob says, in 77 they used a glass bowl attached to a third fitting that would fill with fuel if the pump diaphram failed or else "BOOM"
