mecury 50-loss of power

Hi, my motor ran ok last year. This year it idles fine but in gear it does not pick up any speed. It just putts along. When in N it will rev fast, but just not in gear. Any help?

Well I think I found my problem, my lower carb. is leaking fuel. My motor is running on two cyl. instead of four. I guess I have to rebuild carb. I think I will get someone to do it because it looks like you have to take half the motor apart to even get at this carb. Anyway thanks for the help.<br />aff

Right you are sir! Pulling those carbs is a major PITA. Took me 2 hourse just to pull all the junk necessary to get to the carbs, then 30 minutes to pull the carbs. Easiest thing was rebuilding them with the kits...that took about 30 minutes too, on a 73 Merc 500. So figure on 3 hours shop time plus the price of the kits. Wish you well. Oh yeah...its worth it, mine runs like a striped ape now.
