I am thinking of swapping transmissions in a couple of my trucks.
First truck is a international 4900 with dt 466 and a 10 speed "eaton" (I think)

The second truck is a f 8000 tandem with 3208 cat and a allison 765 +-?

F 8000 is a pig with the automatic, any idea what I would be up against with this swap????

I would find a truck wrecker and ask them. They have books that will tell you what fits what.

I know that Freight liner has many different trans, engines and diffs all in the same year trucks. All depends what plant it was built in and application the truck is being use for. Your Fords are built the same way.

Remember there are multiple versions of the DT 466 (nice motor BTW) and to add to Dolluper...... clutch pedal, linkages, and the computer too.

Hmmm sounds like the F 8000 would be a good candidate for the next ebay auction!!

I would almost suspect that a rear end change in the F8000 might be cheaper. Most auto's in the Medium trucks are dogs........ our state highway crews have a few and they are just fat noisy pick-up's

I get dumping the Allison, but why put it behind the 466? Are you unhappy with the 10-speed in it?
I'd concentrate on a decent trans for the Ford or trade for a truck that is ready to go.

I agree, get a trans for the Ford that you want. Forget the swapping.

But I will say Allison 2000 series transmissions work quite well behind DT466s in buses and armored trucks.

If it was not for the fact that this is a tandem digger derrick, and the only truck I have that meets the 70% road restrictions in the spring, it would be gone. (It does not get used very often)
As for the linkage, it has the convetional cab, so the parts should be easy to come by.
