merc 110 9.8 oil mix, + fnr

i just got a used boat with a merc 110 9.8 HP motor on it was told its a 1978 or a 1979. never owned a merc befor. so whats the oil fuel ratio on it. also with out the motor running i can put it in gear and it's like its still in nutral. does it need to be running to shift ? the guy i got it from said that it has not been run in 7 yrs.after i tried shifting it i seen the tag that said dont shift it with out running. any help out there ? just found this site wow nice.

Hi, Leserz.<br /><br />Welcome to the board.<br /><br />I can't help with the other questions but your fuel mix should be 50:1.<br /><br />Use 1 pint of TCW-3 rated outboard oil to 6 gallons of 87 octane unleaded.<br /><br />Good luck.

You say, when it is in gear its like it is nuetral.<br /><br />Does the prop spin both ways or just one way? On mine, the prop will spin clock wise when in forward, but not the other way, and when in reverse it will spin counter clockwise, but not the other way. Will yours do that? Or does it spin freely both ways? If it spins freely both ways, that is not right and there is something wrong with your motor. Probably needs the shifter adjusted. I will refer to my manual for this motor though.

After consorting with my manual, I can not see any reason why you could not shift with out the motor running.<br /><br />Fuel Mix is 50:1<br />Spark Plugs: Champion L78V, NGK BUHW-2, AC -V40FFK<br />make sure that you have these plugs in that motor, as they are the flat face plugs with no J- electrode.

the prop does turn only one way in gear FW + REV so i guess it's ok then. thanks for all the help from all. les
