A year or two ago I bought a freshly rebuilt 1977 two stroke 6 cyl. Merc 115. A dealer, and friend of mine did his best to give me a great running motor. Unfortunately, I ran it through polluted water or something evil, and ruined the water pump, at less than a hundred hours of use. It got hot, before I noticed and when I compression tested it -- 50 to 70 lbs was the average. Yes, it still runs, but poorly of course. Now he wants as much as I paid for the whole thing to redo it again, probably due to the huge two story new shop/showroom he has.

I found a replacement motor, and can trade in the Merc -- good news -- but we need to decide on the value of the blown one for rebuilding, or as just parts, prop, lower unit, carbs, electrical and basically everything else useable. This was (sniffle) an excellent motor before I did it in, not frozen up and still runs, but I know it is more than I could do to fix it right.

This sunday, I need to have some idea as to what the merc 115 motor would be worth, as is, to him for parts?? I'm taking the motor to him a couple hours up the freeway. Don't see anything on e-Bay at the moment, and time is short -- I could really use your opinion on current value, either to rebuild, or as a parts only value ??

Thanks, Cal Drake
