Merc 115 hp Starting problem

I have a 70's merc blue band 115 hp outboard. When it sits overnight or for a few hours it has a hard time starting, you have to spray somekind of fuel into the center carb to get it to start. I have taken all the carbs out and soaked/cleaned them and I put new fuel lines and fresh fuel in the tank. The fuel line bulb always has pressure and the chokes flip down. I have taken the mesh screens off the carbs and put my hand over them while cranking, then it seems to get really wet with fuel but with just the choke on it doesnt seem to be. The engine runs fine as can be when it has been started and warmed up..<br />Please help! thanks

Make sure you use the choke and the advance lever (cold start lever). If you get your choke working and the cold start lever you wont have to go through that trouble anymore.

Typical with these old towers... make sure you give the ball a couple of EXTRA squezez to force the gas past the needls and into the carbs, also make sure the motor is trimmed all the way down.<br />Jon

Thanks guys, its starting better with what you said. Hope it continues to start right away, Maybe the fuel just needed to work its way through the freshly rebuilt carbs..<br /><br />Thanks again!!!!

The old inline 6's can be hard to start like they say pump that bulb! And make sure that it is tilted back as far as it will go. be sure and never use starting fluid. Pre mix is ok.
