merc 115 losses power

after reading similar probs in forum seems I may have stator prob can I do self test on it ? Engine stars idles and will run fine then sudenly looses power .when opening throttle pulls ok to about 2000rpm then starts missing and generally sounding sick

You need a DVA tester to check the stator.<br /><br />It's not likely the average person would have one. <br /><br />TMD

Thanks doc have since found metal (i think ali) on plug no;3\4 no compression on 3 .Presume piston holed others good comp.Is worth repair and what would cause this as was running so well
