merc 115 prop makeing grinding noise

i have a merc 115-hp and i was on the water and the boat will go backward just fine but wont go foward.so when i took it out the water the prop was all most off.so i screwed the bolt all the way back on.now when it will still go backward but when i put it to go forward there is grinding noise.now when i take the prop off and put it in forward there is no grinding.im doing all this in my yard.

Not sure why you put an outboard prop question in the IO forum, but going to move it over to the prop forum.

From the sounds of your problem you may be missing the front thrush washer. The prop is probably hitting the housing. when in forward.
