I have a 79 Mercruiser 120 that has seen better days. After reading in the repair manuals and the past posts it appears that the Merc 140 is virtually the same engine. How close are they? and is there a place that I can see what parts are interchangeable?

I currently have the Seloc, Clymer, and Service manual but have not seen the info that I need.

The Outside dimensions Are the Same,.....All the Bolt Holes will be Where they Need to be......

The Complete motors Are interchangable,.......

There's Nothing Internally interchangable.........

Thanks for the quick reply Bondo!
Just to clarify, when you say nothing internally do you mean inside the block or also attached to the block? In other words would things like the carb, manifold, alternator, etc. interchange?

Ayuh,.......
Anything that's Inside the Cast Iron Housing that we call the Block,....... Won't Interchange.......

Things that Bolt to the Outside of the said housing SHOULD interchange Without Problems............

depends on if the 140 was a 153 cid or a 181 cid, not much interchange on the internals between the 153 and 181, more than it looks like but you must be very selective.
