Re: merc 125 hp

what year? ive got the 2000 125 merc, and according to the manual, when in FORWARD the rpms should run around 650-700. i find this causes the rpms to run a little high when in neutral, but the engine runs good when set up this way.

Re: merc 125 hp

thanks. actually mine is a 2000 as well. i took it out crabbing this weekend and it didnt like idleing for a long period of time, started to kind of load up. so i would have to rev up alittle to clean up. i did notice when in gear it runs alittle ruff so i tap up alittle on throttle it will smooth right out. next time out i will try to notice where rpm is when in forward, do you have an idea where your idles in neutral? thank

Re: merc 125 hp

Usually it will idle (in neutral) a shade under 1000 after a nice little run. Seems a bit high to me but overall it runs well so I accept it for what it is. I also experienced the sloppiness after idling for a few minutes, I usually just ease on the throttle a little slower when getting on plane. Honestly, so far I'm not a big fan of the "displacement on demand" feature, but I'm still forming my opinion since I have really just recently started running this boat/engine.
