I have a 1998 125 ELPTO. Noticed one day that there's a small cap on the top/rear of the oil injection tank had come loose. After further inspection, it appears there is a small rubber vent that goes in, and then the cap goes on top. I've since replaced the vent, and the cap has stayed on.

My question, though, is whether there is a certain way this vent goes in, and then the cap fits over it? Anybody familiar with this setup? I'm assuming that the system needs some way to relieve pressure built up, and I don't want to install this incorrectly. I don't have a manual (yet), but from what I can tell from the parts manuals I've viewed, it appears it is installed correctly.

Under its current installation, I did have the boat out all last weekend, both fishing and tubing. It it safe to assume that, if it was installed incorrectly, I would have noticed some drop in performance by now?

Thanks for the replies!

Re: Merc 125 Oil Injection System

duck bill, faces down, its designed too stop oil from flowing out of the tank when motor is tilted, acts as a vent, when motor in upright position.
Always make sure oil tank is venting or you can sieze your engine.
Cheers
