Merc 125 saltwater outboard

Having trouble with starting. Batteries charged and connections tightened. The motor will turn and start when it "feel" like it. Get a clicking sound from the motor when it won't start and wondered if I have selonoid problem or starter problem or both. ANy thoughts? Thanks

Hook one lead of a test light to the power lead on the starter, the other lead to a good ground on the engine block or electrics plate. When you have the problem, look at the light. If it's glowing, you have a starter problem, if not, it's the solenoid.
